Awbury is open to the public year round from sunrise to sunset. There is no admission charge to visit the grounds. Visit the Francis Cope House for information about walking trails and Awbury trees. Historical information about the houses and the Cope family is also available. Be advised that dogs are prohibited on the property on weekdays from 9am - 3pm. Location Awbury Arboretum is located in East Germantown, on either side of Washington Lane between Chew Avenue and Ardleigh Street. The entrance to the Francis Cope House (Arboretum Offices) and the Arboretum is off Chew Avenue between Washington Lane and Haines Street. Public Transit The Chestnut Hill East (Formerly R7) train stops at Awbury (Washington Lane Station). The Arboretum can also be reached on the 18 and 26 buses (Chew Ave) and the XH bus (Washington Lane). Driving Directions to the Francis Cope House From PA Turnpike (Norristown/Plymouth Meeting Exit)
From Center City Philadelphia: Take Kelly Drive or the Schuylkill Expressway (Route 76) to Lincoln Drive (Exit 32 off Schuylkill Expressway). Continue 2.5 miles on Lincoln Drive. Turn right onto Johnson Street (3rd traffic light), and continue 1.3 miles on Johnson. Turn right onto Chew Avenue (7th traffic light). Continue through 2 traffic lights (Washington Lane and Walnut Lane) and under a railroad overpass. Just after the overpass, turn left onto Awbury Road. Follow the road to your left up the hill, bearing right into the curve at the top. Please park behind the house (unless directed otherwise).
From PA Turnpike (via Norristown/Plymouth Meeting exit): Take the PA Turnpike to Exit #25. Follow Germantown Avenue southeast. Turn left onto Mt. Airy Avenue (one short block past Wawa on right, Lutheran Seminary on left). Turn right onto Chew Avenue (1st light). Continue through 5 traffic lights and under a railroad overpass. Just after the overpass turn left onto Awbury Road. Follow the road to your left up the hill, bearing right into the curve at the top. Please park behind the house (unless directed otherwise).
From PA Turnpike (via Rt. 309): Take the PA Turnpike to the Fort Washington Exit (#26). Take Route 309 South (Ogontz Avenue). Turn right onto Washington Lane. Turn left onto Chew Avenue (gas station on left). Proceed through one traffic light (Walnut Lane) and under the railroad overpass. Just after the overpass turn left onto Awbury Road. Follow the road to your left up the hill, bearing right into the curve at the top. Please park behind the house (unless directed otherwise). |
