Awbury Landscape Apprentice Program


      

Awbury understands that youth in the northwest communities want opportunities to learn skills that place them on the career track. Awbury's staff has responded by offering training in horticultural, environmental and farming occupations that put young adults, age 18 to 24, on the path to success. Awbury's training combine learning activities with many partnering organizations that include Chanticleer, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), Penn State University &

Temple University - Ambler.

 

During their enrollment

Apprentices are:

  • Learning elements of landscape design, botany and cultivation practices,
  • Operating and maintaining power tools,
  • Performing all aspects of tree care- planting, pruning and tree removal,
  • Participating in PHS's TreeVitalize program to plant hundreds of trees in Philadelphia,
  • Restoring a riparian watershed in cooperation with the Philadelphia Water Department to improve the city's drinking water,
  • Working with Awbury Landscape Services, Inc. at some of the city's historic and cultural landmarks, including the Franklin Institute, Cliveden of the National Trust & Center City Residents Association

Apprentices are paid

$7.25 - $8.00/hr

for 30 hours a week
