Awbury Collaborates with Artology to Bring Sculpture to the Arboretum
Young Artists Install "Living Walls" at AwburyOn Thursday, July 28th, 4th and 5th grade students from Build-A-Bridge's "Artology" camp gathered at Awbury Arboretum's Chew Avenue Gateway (One Awbury Road, Philadelphia, PA) to install their "Living Walls" sculptures. “Artology”, an art and biology summer camp, is a program of BuildABridge, an arts education and intervention organization headquartered in Germantown. Artology serves youth coping with homelessness and poverty from BuildABridge’s partner sites in North, West, and North West Philadelphia. The outdoor sculpture installation at Awbury Arboretum was the culminating event of a two-week summer camp session that “integrates natural sciences and the arts and utilizes Philadelphia's vast natural splendor as a vibrant and evolving classroom” (www. BuildABridge.com). The "Living Walls” sculptures, now on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, incorporate explorations of ecology, design, and community.
